First thing's first. Let's start with the speaker itself, the JBL Charge 5. You won't be disappointed with the JBL Charge 5, to say the least. In case there's anyone curious about authenticity, yes, it is indeed an authentic JBL speaker. I tested the speaker upon receiving it, and the sound quality is well balanced and crystal clear, something that I yearned for after having owned the SRS-XB41. Sure, it doesn't have as much bass as some other speakers out there like the Sony SRS-XB speakers, but it has just enough bass to make me happy. Bluetooth connectivity wasn't an issue either as it uses Bluetooth 5.1. During the 30 minutes I tested the speaker, I never had the speaker disconnect from my phone, even when I left those two in different rooms. As for battery life, honestly, I haven't had a chance to fully test it out to see if there was something wrong with it. But it did come nearly fully charged and thus only needed roughly 10~15 minutes to charge, and after carrying it around for roughly over 10 hours, the battery hasn't drained out. So I'm willing to assume there's nothing wrong with the battery life. In addition to all that, the JBL Charge 5 is dustproof and waterproof.
If there's anything negative to be said about the speaker, it would be three aspects, which could be viewed as minor nitpicks by some people. First, honestly, I think it would've been better if JBL included the wall adapter. It does come with a charging cable, but doesn't come with a wall adapter. (But honestly, this should be pretty obvious if you take the time to read the product description, which I did). Not complaining, but merely making a suggestion. The second thing to point out is that the aux cord input has been removed for the JBL Charge 5. While this might be disappointing to some, I assume JBL is just following the current trend of going wireless. The third and final potential drawback for some would be the "Partyboost" feature. Partyboost is different from the previous "JBL Connect" and therefore does not allow backward compatibility. So, if you own a JBL Charge 4, you won't be able to connect to the JBL Charge 5 and use it simultaneously and vice versa. I would like to mention that personally, the points mentioned above weren't a problem for me since I 1. was already aware of the fact that it didn't come with a wall adapter and have several adapters lying around, 2. I don't have an aux cord and always rely on Bluetooth to connect to speakers anyway, and 3. don't own any other JBL speakers.
Moving on to the travel case, it's also great. It feels durable and has lining inside (as can be seen in the photo) to protect the speaker. It's also comfortable to carry around thanks to the handle. Plus, the case is dustproof according to the manufacturer. Not sure if it's waterproof, though...
However, one rather strange observation I made was that there was some sort of white powder or dust on the handle when I took it out of the packaging. (The case itself is dustproof, but the handle itself is rubber, so it could attract dust over time.) But this wasn't a big issue for me since I just cleaned it with a wet wipe, and therefore doesn't affect my overall view of the product in any significant way.
In terms of shipping, it was fast and came earlier than expected. The expected delivery date was the 23rd of this month, but I got it in less than a week, and I expect those living in the US to receive theirs faster. (I live in South Korea, so I think mine took a bit longer due to overseas shipping.)
Once again, overall, I'm incredibly satisfied with what I received, and I would definitely purchase it again.
